This is the story where the nation of Israel is facing a pretty difficult battle. They are going to be going up against 3 other armies at one time. (First of all, it always seems we have to fight more than one thing at a time, doesn't it?)

The Lord spoke that the battle they were getting ready to fight was not their battle but His. Furthermore, they are instructed to STAND STILL! Can you imagine that? We all want to defend ourselves. Stand Still! You have got be kidding me! They were told that if they stood still that they would see the salvation of the Lord take place right before their eyes.

King Jehosaphat obeyed the Lord and then had the Praise Singers to lead the army of Israel the next day. They begin to sing "the mercies of the Lord endures forever". When the singing begin and the praise team, choir, and band struck the chord, great confusion overtook the armies and they destroyed each other.

What can be learned:

1) Listen to God
2) Stand Still and let God fight for you
3) Praise God anyhow!!!!
4) Rejoice in the Lord
5) Live in His victory

DREAM BIG, GOD WILL FIGHT YOUR BATTLES!

Trusting God in Tough Times, Part 1

Trust God to be on your side!

Psalms 118:

What a thought that is to know that God is on our side. David mentioned in the Psalms about how God was before him, beside him, above him. Can you wrap your mind around that? How encouraging that is to know that no matter where I am or what I am going through, He has my back. That excites me.

So, when you have to cry, He is there. When you are afraid, He is there. When uncertainty is all around, He is there. When you want to quit, He is there. When you are sick and tired of being sick and tired, He is there. When you want to run away, He is there. When you want to crawl in a whole and be left alone, He is there. Isn't that awesome to know?

If you have trusted God with your life, then you have true promise of God keeping you and helping you through the tough times. If you have tried to do it your way and without God, then today is the day to bring Jesus to your side. All you have to do is pray, Jesus, forgive me of all my sins and come into my heart. That is it.

If you prayed that, then He is instantly at your side because you have invited Him to be.

DREAM BIG, GOD IS ON YOUR SIDE!!!!

Trusting God in Tough Times, Intro

Over the next few days, I am going to be sharing on the above topic.

We are living in tough times. We turn on the news or read it in the paper or on the internet and everything is dismal. Economy is in the tank and it is getting worse, many are losing jobs, many are having their jobs shut down for a few weeks at a time. It is definitely tough times.

Proverbs 3:5 - "Trust in the Lord and lean not in your own understanding"

The key word is TRUST. That is difficult to do for some. Society says to trust no one. God says to trust Me. God gave a word to Jeremiah the prophet in Jer. 29:11 that states that God knows the plans that He has for us and that they are awesome and prosperous. Why would we not want to trust Him? I believe our answer is that we can't see Him or touch Him with our senses. However, we need to know that He is all around us. He is waiting for us to call on Him.

The Bible says that if we ask, it will be given to us according to His will. The Bible also says in Philippians that He will supply all our needs according to His riches. And man, does He have some riches!

I am going to be sharing in the coming days, the following:

1) Trusting God to be on our side
2) Trusting God to fight our battles
3) Trusting God to meet our needs.

I encourage you to say this little pray each day, especially if you are in a tough spot in life:

Heavenly Father, help me to trust You with my life today!

DREAM BIG IN TOUGH TIMES!!!!

My Valentine's

I know that God loves me. But, I believe He really likes me too. Why else would He allow me to share my life with such a wonderful woman? He has to like me.

On Friday and Saturday, Nancy and I had the opportunity to spend some time alone just being about us. I love everyone that is in my life, but none like her. Just a few things about our time away...

- the Turtle Cay was a nice place (a little noisey outside though)
- Rockefellars at Rudee's Inlet was nice
- our evening was wonderful (that is all the details you get)
- we even did a Timeshare thing (hey, it was $100 and Nancy was for it also)
- lunch at a nice pizza parlor down on the oceanfront
- movies and a little shopping
- dinner was Chick-Fil-A in the car outside of Walmart

You see, the best part is just being together. For whatever reason, many people may not get to spend that kind of quality time together. As a result, we get another date in the near future on the oceanfront (because, come to find out, that is the only place to spend the money).

Anyway, thank you Nance for a wonderful weekend and more importantly 11 years. I love you and may God grant us favor to have the best year yet, this year.

When God Revealed Her

Tomorrow, Nancy and I will be celebrating 11 years of marriage. Where has the time gone. I am thankful for every step that we have made. We have two wonderful children, we have owned two homes (not at the same time), we have wonderful in-laws, we both love God first and foremost, and the list could go on. So, with that in mind, I wanted to share our story from my perspective.

First of all, even from a young age, I always imagined a family, beautiful wife. Sometimes, I really struggled with the fact that I was ready for all that to happen, but it wasn't. But, I am so thankful to God that at the beginning of my life, he knew that a few short years later, he would create my soulmate. I was always told by folks that "You will know". I really didn't believe that....but it IS true.

The Reveal

In February 1997, I was chaperoning a group of teenagers to Premier Winterfest in Lancaster, PA. On this particular afternoon, our group decided to have lunch at Bob Evans. When I was seated with some from our group, my attention was immediately caught by this cutie sitting at a table nearby. I didn't think too much about, because I figured with my luck that she was a teenager from Maine or something like that. However, upon check out, I ran into Candie Taylor, whose husband Rob, was a great influence in my teenage years, primarily through youth camps. As we were checking out, I noticed that the "cutie" was with Candie's group. I didn't ask anything then, but I wanted to. I also knew that her church was only about 45 minutes from me.

The Information Gathering

That evening prior to one of the events, I had one mission, find Candie. I had to know first, how old she was. It mattered because this was a teenager event and I wasn't a teenager. Nonetheless, upon on finding Candie, I was pleasantly surprised that the "cutie" was not a teenager. Suddenly, I forgot what I had come there for, to help watch teens. My mission changed. It was now about me finding out more about her.

The "Stalk"

That's right....what was I supposed to do? I was too much of a wimp to approach her, so I followed her in particular from one of the sessions. I just had to look at her. I wasn't going to harm her....but I had to look at her. I really didn't count on her having any interest in me. Also, upon the conclusion of the conference, I was waiting on our charter bus and saw her getting ready to leave, so I made a point that I needed to get off the bus and find someone that I acted like I knew. (Also, I felt sorry for her....I was in a nice big charter bus....she was getting packed into a little grey car....it really looked like sardines packed in a grey can....all they would have to do was peeled back the top....)

The Phone Call

That week, I had finally gotten her phone number....but there was something wrong....I didn't know what to do with it. I had never actually called someone that I had never met or spoke to to go out on a date. Candie assured me that she would say yes....and she did. February 15th, 1997 we were scheduled for a first date.

The First Date

I remember driving "all the way" to Franklin to take her "all the way" back to Chesapeake. We were both scared to death. She tried to get in a truck at her house that did not belong to me, then I couldn't get my key to turn in the ignition. I literally felt as if I was going to throw up. We did manage to get on our way. We were off to Olive Garden. I can remember how self concious she was in eating spaghetti. I can take you almost to that table. We went to a movie and honestly, I don't remember what it was. (I think we went to a movie) I honestly was just mesmerized with this girl. And even the fact that she would go anywhere with me.

It Never Stopped

I immediately knew that she was going to have to run me off before I would ever leave her alone. I was quickly thinking that she was the "one" that I would know was supposed to be my wife. She became what I thought of every second of the day. I actually begin begging God that she was "the one". I am not joking. I begged him.

In May of the year at her twin sisters wedding, I saw Nancy walk down the aisle, and I leaned over to Candie and told her, "I will marry that girl". I already had the date picked out, because it was on a Saturday, February 14, 1998. In July, I finally got the nerve to ask her to marry me. (I had never had done that before, you know). Again, I was ready to throw up....in a good way. I pretty much failed on the Romantic part of asking her to marry me (the park on Clay Street in Franklin). I just had to get it done. (I would have probably asked her at a trash dump if that was where we were.)

February 14th, 1998

Only 364 days from our first date, I was getting ready to realize a dream that I had always had. Other than my Savior saving me, this was the greatest blessing in my life. That special day was somewhat of a "blur". The nerves, the people, so much going on. But I cherish everyday that I am allowed to share with the most beautiful woman in the world. I often say that she really got the short end of the deal. If she did or she didn't, I know that I have blessed much more than I ever deserved.

I Love You

Nancy thank you for a wonderful 11 years (really 12). Thank you for putting up with me. Thank you for two beautiful children. Thank you for always standing by me. YOU ARE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE. I rejoice in our past years together, but I look forward with great anticipation of what is ahead of us. DREAM BIG!!!!

Gathering Your Sacrifice

This past Sunday, my friend, Paul Hollifield shared an awesome message on Loving God through Worship. One of the things that stood out to me was about "bringing a sacrifice of praise".

You see, before you can bring a sacrifice, you have to gather one. So, to bring a sacrifice of praise on Sunday, we must be about gathering that sacrifice throughout the week. How do you that?

- worship when only He is looking
- loving your spouse
- loving your kids
- going the extra mile at work
- opening the door
- putting the grocery cart in the proper place
- smiling when you shouldn't

That is only a few ways. I want to be about gathering my sacrifice. I hope you do the same.

My Weekend!!!

First of all, I am making a commitment to keep my blog up to date, promise! (At least every other day)

What a weekend! Before I tell you about it, I seem to do much more during the weekend than during the week, however, it is done in two days instead of five days. But, guess what? I LOVE IT!!!

The Throne Zone

Nancy, Caleb, Gracie, and I attended this awesome worship conference in Va. Beach with some of the wonderful folks of GB West. You can see pictures at Nancy's blog. It was a great time of worship with Eddie James and Lindell Cooley. It was the first time of seeing Eddie James ministry and really the first time I have seen Lindell Cooley as a preacher. Great stuff!!!!

I really appreciate Keith and Michelle Duncan for their vision that they live through the Throne Zone and His Call Ministries. That is what life is about, living out God's purpose for our lives.

GB West Leadership Retreat

On Saturday, we had our very first Leadership Retreat. What a time in the Lord! As I often say, I am truly blessed to be able to serve with such an awesome group of passionate leaders. They are passionate about God, about Great Bridge West, and about their areas of responsibilities. Our time was truly a time to "Come Together".

Sunday @ GB West

Again, thank you Jesus for showing up! What is the point if He doesn't? There isn't. I truly want to thank Paul and Annie Hollifield and their ministry today. I have known each of them for many years, but this is the first time I have heard Paul speak and did he ever. You will have to go to our website (http://www.greatbridgewest.com/) to hear this message on Loving God through Worship. I am not going to get into this tonight about the message, but I will say that God spoke to me if not anyone else. It was truly a revelation Word. I will be sharing more about what I got out of it during this week.

Anyway, that was my weekend. So, keep checking, if you want to read more about Sunday.

Be blessed and DREAM BIG!!!!

You have to see this!

Psalms 8:2 - "Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants, You have ordained strength,....."

How hard is it to hear God? That is right, everyone is invited into a relationship with Jesus. The chosen ones are the ones that step up and stand out above the rest. You may argue that Jesus loves those that don't stand out and I would say that you are absolutely right....however it is our choice to stand out and stand up to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

#2 - There is a process....

You see in AI, there is a process before someone can get to the judges. There are different rounds that one has to go through. They are not just looking at your talent, but attitude, and whatever else that will make for a good show during the first few weeks.

Once we stand up and stand out then there is a process called life that we must endure until the end. The bible states that those that "endure to the end, shall be saved". You see, we have to get to the end. However, unlike AI, it is not up to someone else to say we can't move on, it is up to us. Period. We often become discouraged or just tired of doing the life that is required of us to make it to the end.

#3 - The audition......

That is right, life is an audition. If we do not meet the standards set in scripture, then we will not make it. Again, Jesus is not interested on the outside or how great our talents are, but what is in the heart. Only one of two things can exist in our heart.....Jesus or Sin!!!! There is no in between. Just being good, talented, or a good person with a great story will not get us through to the Promised Land.

#4 - The Judge's Decision.....

In life there is only ONE judge.....JESUS CHRIST!!!! He knows more than those four judges put together. We are not looking for the golden piece of paper or to hear "WELCOME TO HOLLYWOOD, DOG"....we are looking to hear the words, "WELL DONE, GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT".

#5 - Hollywood.....

The goal of the show is to get to Hollywood, however, our goal is to spend an eternity in the presence of the Most High God.

#6 - the Effect....

When people are rejected they will leave the room with many different reactions....anger, vulgarity, sadness, or simply a feeling of rejection (of which they have probably felt in much of their life)

On the other hand, when they receive the golden ticket to Hollywood, they will come through the doors and celebrate with those that are their to celebrate with them. They are ecstatic and full of joy. (Read Hebrews 12)

So that is my view of Jesus and American Idol. There will only be one American Idol this year, but the beauty of Jesus is that His grace and mercy is extended to each of us, we just have to accept it and endure to the end.

Just like AI contestants dream big dreams, you should DREAM BIG because God is a BIG GOD!!!!

Watch What You Say....

First of all, I apologize for no Sunday Wrap....Truth is, after Sunday service, I was done....I had been sick for a week and even missed the first day back to work after having 16 days off for Christmas break.

I have started a series on Prayer. This is the most important part of a church and of a follower of Christ. Check out this blog from our church website.

Furthermore, check out something I came across....

The Effect of Speech on Water Crystals

Dr. Masaru Emoto has done research on the effect of words on water crystals - spoken words, written words, pictures, and even music. Using samples of frozen water from the same source, the vials were then coded and exposed differently - some with positive words, images, or music and some with hateful and evil words. The vials exposed to or inscribed with words of love and gratitude produced beautiful water crystals. The vials associated with negative words were very different. In some instances, they did not even form crystals. The experiements were done using words from different languages, and by scientists with no knowledge of what the words meant. The results were similar. The human body is composed of up to ninety percent water. If words have such a significant impact on water crystals, then what is the impact of positive and negative words upon our bodies? Deut. 32:2 says, "Let my teaching drop as the rain, my speec distill as the dew, as the droplets on the fresh grass and as the showers on the herb" (NASB)

Just something to think about? Do you speak words of encouragement and praise or words of discord and negativity?

Be blessed......

Leaving a Legacy

Today, Nancy and I attended the Life Celebration of Linda Jordan. I wrote about a miracle that God did for her here. However, she had more complications and God called her home this past Thursday morning.

Now, I did not know her, but I learned much about her today at the service. The word that kept running through my mind was Legacy. This word come to my mind long before the service began, but as I saw hunderds of people file into a rather large church sancutary. Every seat was taken, the choir seats were taken, many were left standing.

This has made me truly think about one question, What will my legacy be?. A legacy is not built by doing the things always where people can see you or applaud you, but a legacy is built by doing the small things, the things that you didn't have to do, doing the things that no one else wanted to do. Building a legacy means putting others before yourself.

I have been to a few funeral services or family visitations that simply spoke of a legacy. One that comes to my mind is that of my dad. I will never forget the seemingly endless lines of people at his visitation that continued for 3 hours. As much as I was saddened by his death, I was even more proud of his life and the fact that God allowed me to be his son.

My question to you.....Have you began building your legacy?....You see, we never know when our time will come, just as Mrs. Jordan's life unexpectedly ended. We can't change what is already behind us, but we can begin today to build a legacy that will impact the lives of hundreds of people. The greatest legacy that we can leave is the fact that we know Christ as our Savior. That has to be number one on our list. Everything else builds on that.

Leave a Legacy!!!

Happy New Year!!!!

I trust that everyone has had a Happy New Year!!! Are you ready?

The greatest miracle was the fact that Mary, the mother of Jesus, conceived a child by the Holy Spirit....what a miracle....no doctors would be able to explain that.

I want to briefly share two miracles that I was notified of yesterday:

Miracle #1 - One of our dear members, Evelyn Payne, was informed the day after her mother passed away that her recent test results revealed that she had a couple spots on her lungs, some issues with blockage in one of her arteries, and a few other things.....we begin to pray and on Sunday, December 14th, some of the ladies of the church laid hands on her for her healing and I truly believe that God did just that. This past Monday, she made her doctors visit and everything checked out great....she did have one small issue, but I believe that God will heal that too.

Miracle #2 - One of our regular attender's aunt, Linda Jordan, was rushed to Norfolk Sentara with an aneurysm behind one her eyes. The doctors could not understand how she was still alive....she was later flown to UVA Hospital for stint to be put in the aneurysm, but it was too severe....upon surgery, they discovered that she was blessed to have a second artery supplying blood to her eye and she come through surgery and can see....the doctors classified this as a "Miracle".

Praise God for these miracles!!! To God be the Glory!!!

Merry Christmas!!!!!

Santa Visit

I wanted to share just a couple pics of Caleb and Gracie's visit to see Santa....they were able to share their list with him.

Of course, I most grateful for the the Greatest Gift, Jesus Christ...where would I be without Him...if I never received anything else in my life, I have already received the greatest. Everyone did awesome...it was amazing to see it all happen and come together....there were over 40 people involved in making this happen....that is why I am so blessed to lead such a wonderful group of God's people.

We had our second largest attendance today....the number is not what is important, but the fact that over 100 people got to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. I praise God that Jesus was not just born, but that He died and 3 days later was resurrected and lives today. Thank you, Heavenly Father for the greatest Gift.......

This entire weekend was full of activity....we had the opportunity to sing most of our songs for the residents of East Pavilion Nursing Home....sometimes this is a ministry that is difficult for many, including myself, but I know that it puts a smile on the face of the residents, but even more so on the face of God....

Saturday evening many attended the Church Christmas Banquet and enjoyed some awesome food and fellowship, pictures, games, and singing.....it was a great time....here is a picture of me and my sweety....

Me and My Sweety

One final thing that I got to do for the first time with my son....attend a UNC Tarheel basketball game.....I have always wanted to go do this and I got to share it with Caleb....he loves the Heels (in basketball anyways)....it was really neat to see him just take it all in....he didn't say much, but watched and looked at the surroundings....I know the game is not important, (but it is ok to like to watch that also)....but what was important was that I got to spend an entire day together, just him and me...pretty awesome!!!

Have blessed week!!!! You have to check us out if you are reading and you don't attend church anywhere. Great Bridge West is a family that is looking to get larger. There is always room for you. Using the scripture in Luke 2 that stated that the reason that Jesus was "Away in the Manger" was because the motel was full. The NO VACANCY was flashing. How do you answer these questions?

- Do you have room in your SCHEDULE?
- Do you have room in your CAREER?
- Do you have room in your DECISION MAKING?
- Do you have room in your FINANCES?
- Do you have room WHEN NO ELSE IS THERE?
- Do you have room in your FAMILY TIME?
- Do you have room in your HEART?

Of course the answer should always be yes.....but in reality that is not always the case.

We must make room for our Savior in our daily lives. I will challenge you as I challenged GB West today.....When you wake up each day this week, start by saying, "God, I invite you into my life today."

Before I go, I want to say how proud I am of my sister, Cheryl....she has just completed her Bachelors Degree at Bluefield College. That is a feat in itself, but she did it while working full-time and raising Zachary and Hannah. As I have posted earlier, I ask myself this same question today. Did you rush out the door this morning? Did you talk to Him today? Did you take Him with you today?

These are questions that we should ask ourselves everyday. We should not think more of Jesus these days just because it is the time to celebrate His birthday. Everyday is His day because He created it....even March 14 of every year. (No significant day, just Jesus' day).

So, again, be reminded as I was today....slow down and enjoy Him today....it is not too late.

As I am preparing for Sunday, I want to tell you to not miss it or catch it on Podcast. When I got home today after a half day of school, she was ready to go...she had done her part, now I had to do my part....Here is a little bit of what we did:

Her treat was bowling with just Dad and a Hot Fudge Sundae. I do miss him. I miss the days that his birthday and Thanksgiving were the same day. It is really true that you do not miss someone until they are no longer with you.

I encourage you to Enjoy the Journey with those that you love. Life is too short to be frustrated, afraid, confused. Paul wrote in Philippians 4, "do not be anxious for anything".

The holiday seasons will be difficult for some of you and I truly understand. But I remind you to be Thankful for the Birth of Jesus Christ. That is what it is all about. Although Jesus was not born on December 25th, the celebration is of a life like no other. Be thankful for that, if for nothing else. That is right, I am a pastor and the church falls in the everything else category....is it important? Absolutely. For me Great Bridge West is #3 and will likely that will be the case for the rest of my life.....

Secondly, if I help when an entire county but lose my own, then I AM A COMPLETE FAILURE!!! It is perfect timing for where I am right now. When I return home, I will be sharing some things that I have learned.

I praise God that He uses so many different avenues to reach the lost....It may stretch us....but that is what God does......

I will give this one thought that God had already put in my heart, IT IS NOT ABOUT ME!!!!!! It is not about what makes me comfortable, it is not about what I know. It is almost difficult to even explain except that God really showed up today.

I again preached from 2 Kings 6 along the lines of "Today's Menu - Famine or Feast". What do we choose. Obviously, we would much rather have the feast, yet we seem to linger around the famine. For whatever the reason, the famine seems to be a little easier the surrender that is required to have the feast mentioned in Revelation 19, "the Marriage Supper of the Lamb".

I truly appreciate the obedience of God's people. Being obedient really will stretch us, but when God responds to our obedience there is no greater feeling than knowing that you listened and responded to Him.

Great things continue to happen this year and I truly believe that we are going to finish this year well, but I believe even more that 2009 is going to be OFF THE HOOK!

Be blessed and remember to DREAM BIG!

Some Saturday Thoughts

Today was a day for Nancy and I to get away and just be by ourselves for a few hours. How terrible, we want to be alone. Every couple needs to make it happen. Your kids will survive, I promise. Anyway, it didn't happen. Gracie woke up this morning with the stomach virus and was rather sick for about 6 hours. She seems to be better now. She told me she wanted to be better so she could go to church tomorrow....must be doing something right! Nancy and I will get our day another day. I still love her much!!!!

I am expecting a great time in our service tomorrow. The message is going to be a bit different. Don't miss it!!!

Met last night with Dean....Great Bridge West website soon to launch.....maybe by next Sunday...trying to get it right.

Looking forward to something I am attending this week. I will write more about it afterwards...check back to see if I learn anything

Three observations for the day:
1) Jesus really loves me to put up with me
2) Nancy really loves me to put up with me
3) Caleb and Gracie rock!!!!

Bye for now, DREAM BIG!!!!

Sunday Wrap.....on Monday

I was busy yesterday and didn't take time to share about Sunday.

We had another great day at GB West. I preached on the subject of "What to do in Uncertain Times."

I believe that it is evident that we are living in uncertain times. The economy stinks, the presidential campaign is crazy (but finally over, maybe), and the world is in terrible shape. However, GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL!!!!

I used the text in 2 Kings 6:16 - "Do not fear, for those that are with us are more than those that are with them". The young servant of Elisha could only see the army of Syria surrounding them, but Elisha could see the armies of God surrounding the army of Syria.

In Uncertain Times, we must:

1) Have the right perspective - Do we see with "natural" eyes or with "spiritual" eyes?

2) Not Fear - We can't be afraid of the days we live in. The craziness of our world is simply setting the staging of the return of Jesus to take us to be with Him. If Jesus was not Lord of my life, I would be afraid. However, Paul wrote to Timothy (1 Tim 1:7), that God does gives the spirit of fear.....

3) We must know Who is with us - Romans 8:31 says that "If God is for us, then who can be against us?" God is with us and HE HAS OUR BACK.

Next Sunday, we will continue looking at this story in 2 Kings 6 and 7.

That is all for now....until then DREAM BIG!!!!

Sunday Night Wrap and More

Today, completed the series, "Families of Faith".

We had our older kids stay out front as I talked about the responsiblity of the children to obey their parents and to honor their parents. Guess what? They really listen.

What really made my day was that I know that Caleb listened today. When I got home after church, he met me in the drive way to tell me that I did a good job today preaching. So, if no one else heard what was said, he did, and that makes the message a success.

Other things.....

- We had an awesome time yesterday with our Harvest Party. Moonbounce inside, it was awesome.

- The kids played a lot of games....fun, fun, fun!!!!

- The adults fellowshipped....fun, fun, fun!!!

- I, again, thank God for the opportunity to pastor such a great group.

One last thing, if you are actually reading this....tell someone else about it......

Check back this week, God gave me a life lesson this afternoon....I will share it later....

Have a great week and DREAM BIG!!!

Today's is Caleb's Day!!!!

Nine years ago, Matthew "Caleb" Kidd came into our world. What a joy he has been to our family. It is neat to see him grow and become who he is today. I know that God has something special for him in life, but I also know that he is already special to Nancy and me.

I thank God each time his birthday rolls around because of the miracle at his birth. As he understands, he was "blue" when he was born, not breathing. As frightening as it was, prayer worked that night nine years ago.

Just like the course we sing sometimes, "when you don't know what else to pray and you can't find the words to say, just say the name of Jesus". That is what we did that night. When we quit praying, he began crying.

So, Caleb, HAPPY BIRTHDAY and always DREAM BIG!!!!

Sunday Wrap

Another great day with the greatest people in the world. It is such a privilege to do what God has allowed me to do.

Today, Families of Faith, Part 3 (Wives, submit to your husbands). That is sometimes a difficult one to swallow for any of us, male or female. We are all subject to the authority of someone else.

However, the biblical mandate is for the husbands to lead and the wives to submit. A lot of times, the guys are afraid to lead (wimps) and the wives have to lead. That often will disrupt the wives ability to submit because there is nothing to submit to.

The bottom line of the past two weeks is that God created the man to want respect and the woman to want to be loved.

Husbands, love like never before. Date your wives again. Wives, follow and respect your husbands like never before and you will have them eating out of the palm of your hand. Try it!!!When you praise your man for the good things he does instead of what he is not doing, then his passion for you will be ignited like a California wild fire.

Go for it ladies, respect, respect, respect, and he will love, love, love.

This is the way God intended it to be.

Read it in Ephesians 5:22-33. I didn't make it up. God did!

See you next time and DREAM BIG!!!

Sunday Wrap

First of all, I am sorry that it has been since last Sunday that I wrote something....where does the time go?

We had another great day today. We continue to have newcomers in our services and I praise God for that. I always look forward to meeting new faces. We had a few folks out working or taking care of other business. I always miss them.

I continued our Families of Faith series today. Today it was about the men (husbands). Messages like today really stretch me into being a better child of God and also makes me realize how short I fall sometimes. Thank God for His grace. Thank God for my wife's grace, also.

When we set out to start Great Bridge West, a key target was to minister to the family. I am greatful that we are building quality ministry that reaches the entire family. I pray that God will bring revival to our families and that He will also enable us to minister to families that are standing at the edge of divorce. God help us to bring reconciliation in fragile relationships.

The key about today's message to everyone is that we have to learn the Love of Christ, before we can truly love someone else, including our spouses.

Next week, it will be the wives turn.....until then, DREAM BIG!!!!

Sunday Wrap

I just wanted to give a brief summary of today. It has been a busy week and my mind has been attempting to shut down.

It was great to see some new faces today. It is always good to have people respond to our efforts of outreach. We can never know when we will reach out to someone that is at the point of not knowing which direction to turn next.

Today, I begin a series, "Families of Faith", "Extreme Home Makeover" -

A few points from today:

1) Tear Down the Old House -

We can't build the home that God desires unless we rid ourselves of the old. We have to get all the junk out of our homes that cause strife and that are simply sin.

2) Build the Foundation -

We have to build on the foundation of Jesus Christ and Him alone. Establishing the proper foundation may require ourselves to change some areas of our life.

3) Build the Structure -

Walls and Roof - Protection
Kitchen - Place of Preparation
Dining Room - Place of Nourishment
Restroom - Place of Refreshing and Cleansing
Bedroom - Place of Rest
Master Bedroom - Place of Intimacy with God
Great Room - Place of Fellowship with God and Family

4) Possess the Keys

The one that possesses the keys to the house is the one that has the authority to determine who and what may come in. We must guard the door of the subtleness of Satan to sneak into our homes. We MUST establish that our home will be a "House of God".

Looking forward to great week. Until then, DREAM BIG!!!!

Great Bridge West @ Franklin Fall Festival

First of all, I want to say sorry for taking so long to post. It has just been one of those busy weeks.

Secondly, I praise God for giving such a beautiful day, weather wise.

Today, we took part in our greatest marketing event of the year. We participated in the Franklin Fall Festival. The day began with 7AM set up and concluded with a 5PM tear down. We had the opportunity to connect with hundreds of people. We gave away nearly 700 bottles of water (people were amazed that we were actually giving them away), 500 brochures and pens about us, toys, balloons, and lots of smiles. The church family really made the Heavenly Father proud for showing the love of Christ. I am believing that God will give the increase to seeds planted today.

I want to say thank you to all those that helped in many areas today. You make this Pastor one proud guy!!! I especially want to thank Richard and Sharen for organizing this wonderful outreach event.

The greatest thing is that I get to do worship with the GB West family tomorrow. I will see you around the Throne of God.

DREAM BIG!!!

Hey Bud!!!!

Oh how I would love to hear those words from the only one that could say them right, my Dad.

Three years ago tomorrow, God decided he wanted my dad more than I needed him. It seems that I haven't talked with him 30 years, but then it seems he was just visiting 3 days ago. It still brings great joy to me as my children still mention PawPaw even though they only got to enjoy him for a little while.

I have learned over the three years that one does not get over something like missing your dad, but you learn to deal with it with the help of God. There are so many things I would love to share with him. Especially, the fact that in many ways I am like him. I love my kids, I love my wife, I love to give of myself to others, I love life, and most importantly, I love God. Thank you dad for what you instilled in me, not so much by words, but by your life. You lived it more than you talked about it.

To anyone that may read this, I just want to say that you need to love Jesus Christ, you need to love our family, you need to love your friends, and even you need to love your enemies. You never know when their time on earth will end. Don't have any regrets!

To my family (if you read this), as difficult as it is to not be sad tomorrow (Sept. 30th), be joyful because Dad has gained his reward. He is smiling and laughing, so we should do the same.

I look forward to that day in Heaven when I can hear Jesus say, "Well done, thy good and faithful servant", but right after that I anticipate hearing again,

HEY BUD!!!

Sunday Wrap

We had another great day today at Great Bridge West. It was great to a have a friend of mine, Greg Williamson, sharing two timely messages.

Tonight we had a service that was very timely for us and many people that were there. The world in short was that we will have struggles in our life and we may ask when is it going to end? WHEN WE WIN!!!!

However, we must be willing to fight and stand up to the devil when he is trying to stare us down and when he distracts. Let's fight and not give up, nor give in.

It reminded of the famous saying of a former NC State basketball coach, Jim Valvano. In his last days of struggle with cancer, he made a statement in one of his final speeches,

"Don't give up , don't EVER give up!!!"

We can't give up in our struggles. Struggles are simply part of our life. However, we must stop just accepting them in our life....put up a fight. Remember, Paul said to Timothy,

"I have fought the fight, I have kept the faith".

I love Sunday's....first of all, to celebrate Jesus Christ...secondly, to worship with some great people....

Until next time, DREAM BIG!!!!

The Son Always Shines!!!!

What an interesting day I had today. What seemed as a regular day teaching school turned into an eventful lunch hour. Today, right before lunch, my assistant principal came to my mobile unit classroom to tell me to move my students as quickly as possible to the gymnasium. I thought it to be a bit strange, but I knew this wasn't a drill but something was going on. The skies were blue, but little did I know that a storm was approaching.

All the outside classrooms moved to the gym bleachers for safety. This delayed lunch for about 15 minutes. Finally around 11:50 or so, the school were released to go to their 3rd block or 1st lunch (which I have). I had enough time to get my lunch and sit down to take a few bites of food and they were again telling us to move back to our places of "safety". However, this time was a step more, we were instructed to go into Code 4, which meant tornado drill. But, this wasn't a drill, it was real. This one lasted a little longer than the first. This soon ended around 12:45 and we were allowed to go back to lunch. By the time I had returned to my 3rd block class in the outside classroom, the skies were blue and the sun was shining. That was my day.

However, the Lord showed me a little lesson from this and I want to share it.

1. We have to prepare for safety before the storm gets there

We need to spend our time with God in preparation for what may come our way. That is why we need our alone time with Him. It gets us ready for what we don't see coming.

2. Storms are going to come

This is a fact in life. Storms are coming our way.

3. We may get a break between storms

4. But, the storms keep coming and they get worse

You may feel like you constantly being hit by "storms". You may ask, "what's next?". I simply say hold on to the Peace Speaker.

5. However, the clouds always roll back and the SON always shines

Not matter what you are going through, just know there will always be an end. God knows exactly your limits. However, your limits are likely further than you think they are. God loves to stretch us because He wants us to grow.

Do you realize that in the daytime, the skies are ALWAYS blue and the sun is ALWAYS shining? Although clouds, wind, rain, and storms come, beyond that, the skies still are blue and the sun is still shining.

So, the essence of my life lesson today is, IN THE END, THE SON ALWAYS SHINES!!!!

What is really going on?

I ask that question not knowing the answer. It is a question that I am asking God in my personal time with Him. I am just hoping that He will give me a glimpse of what is going on in our country. As we see on the news, it is evident that our nation is at a vital crossroads of sorts. The potential economic collapse is nothing to ignore nor is it anything to fear.

I am no economists, nor am I an investor at Wall Street, but obviously what is taking place effects more than the wealthiest and the large companies, but it has began to trickle down to the many services and conveinieces that we take for granted. It is causing great concern to our nations leaders and the leaders around the world.

Back to my question, the reason I am asking God what is going on, is because I also want to know how we that are lovers of God can reach those that are far from Him. My peace is in the fact that scripture says in

Matthew 6:33 "seek ye first the kingdom of Heaven and His righteousness, and He will add these things unto you".

These things are the materials things and the necessities of life. I trust fully in Him.

One thing that I believe is the fact that the stage is being set for a person, with the answers to the world economic woes, the Anti-Christ. I truly believe we are living the prophecy right now in our world. Again, that does not bring fear, because I know that I am ready for Christ to appear in the clouds and call His church home.

My question to anyone reading this, are you afraid? are you ready? If your answer to question 1 is yes and/or your answer to question 2 is no, then it is not too late. Today is your day. Just ask Christ into your heart and asking Him to forgive you of your sins. It is that simple!!! He will give you great peace, even in fearful times.

Romans 8:33 - "If God be for us, who can be against us?"

Father, reveal to your church how we can respond in these uncertain times.

Sunday's Wrap

What a day!!!

It just doesn't seem fair to everyone else that I get to lead such a wonderful church at Great Bridge West Ministries.

Today, the church family honored me and my family today with Pastor Appreciation Day. It took everything with me to not just end up in a heap crying. I was truly blessed today. First of all, I do not do what I do in anticipation of days like day. However, what a feeling it is to know that you have made a difference in people's lives.

We truly are a family and God used that family to bless the Kidd's today. I wish it was possible to do the same for each of them. Since I can't do that, I just want to say that I appreciate and love each of them. I don't know that I deserve what happened today, but I do thank everyone for sharing in this day today.

Something that we can learn from today is that we should make an effort to show appreciation to others for impacts that they have made in our lives. It may be former teachers, pastors, mentors, bosses, co-workers, or many other things. I challenge you to let someone know how much you appreciate them. It may be something from many years back, but let others know that they made a difference.

Great Bridge West, you guys are the best. Thank you, again! The Kidd's love sharing our lives with you. Remember, DREAM BIG!!!!

24 Years Ago......

I was born....into the kingdom of God. Today is my birthday of the greatest kind. I was only 12 years old, but I will never forget that moment during a revival at the Bastian Church of God in Bastian, VA. This small town in Southwestern VA was the place that "cut my teeth" in the things of God. Many men and women played a role in my development into becoming who I am today. I remember my Sunday School teachers and Pastors.

However, the greatest spiritual influences in my life were my two grandmothers and my youth leader, Keith Gore. These were the folks that always seemed to know when I messed up and they would call me on it. But they were always there to love me and point me in the right direction.

I can think of many people along the way of life that helped me become who I am today. I am so greatful for all the "Kingdom Connections" in my life.

Psalms 37 states "the steps of a righteous man are ordered by God". It is so comforting to know that God always has our best interest in mind. We need to always remember that.

Just imagine in the next 24 years, what God can do in my life and through my life...Heavenly Father, help me yield to you at all times.

Also, imagine, I will be 60 years old. That is a little disconcerting....and I digress....

Thank you Father for 24 great imperfect years in You.

Who Am I?...Part 2 the family

As I have already mentioned, I am the husband of Nancy and father of Caleb and Gracie.

First of all, the love of my life, Nancy - I often tell her that she got the short end of the deal in our marriage. God really blessed me with an awesome mate. On February 14, 2009, we will have been married for 11 years. It is amazing how fast that times goes by. It really was love at first sight...(once I knew she lived near me and was not too young...she looks younger than she is...). However, it did not take long to realize that she was the one for me. What did I ever do to be blessed so much by God and such a beautiful wife.

Caleb came into our world in October 1999. So, soon he will be turning 9 years old. That is really hard to believe. He is a miracle in our life. (I may share more about that later). He enjoys sports, being silly, and getting his way. He is my "mini-me". Whenever I learn to post pictures, you will understand what I mean. Right now, he is involved in playing baseball. Caleb rocks!!!

Finally, Gracie came into our world in April 2003. We often say she is 5 going on 15. She is a little to "grown" for daddy to handle. There will be no need for boys to line up for her until God has called me home. She is our drama queen!!! She just happens to be her mom's "mini-me". She is involved right now in cheering and she loves, and I mean loves, to sing. The neatest thing is most of the songs she knows are songs that bring glory to God.

If you don't know me, please know that God has blessed me. I am not sure why He chose to give me such an awesome wife and kids, but I am so thankful for it. God, You are Awesome!!!

If anyone is reading and wondering, like I used to, when is this going to happen for me....just keep trusting God....practice loving Him first....He will reveal all things to you in HIS time!!!

To the Kidd's - YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!

Sunday's Wrap

Here is Sunday's first wrap....

We had a wonderful day. It was really hot in our meeting space, but as I often say, "I know of a hotter place."

I truly appreciate how people opened their hearts to worship an Almighty God. He is the peace speaker in our lives. God is awesome!!!

To sum up today's message, we must 1) Get out of ourselves 2) Get out of our seat 3) Get out of walls....Today we launched an area of ministry that we really have already have been doing, our Outreach Ministry. We had already been taking place in the areas of outreach as a body, but I truly believe with the leadership of Richard and Sharen Brazil, that we will be able to "Take it To the Streets" like never before in our short church history.

The Outreach Ministry Team is also awesome...it is ALL OF US!!! What a great group of people that love God and truly love others. I am often humbled that God chose me and Nancy to lead this great group.

I am going to go now and chill out with my family...What an even greater blessing!!!

Hurricane Ike

Another day, I will continue talking more about who I am, but I just wanted to share a little about this horrific hurricane that is taking place right now in Texas.

I am usually one to become glued to the news when an event like this takes place. I am not sure why, but I do. Early this morning, as I saw the footage of the storm coming on shore, I could not imagine going through that in total darkness and a lot of uncertainty. I am sure we will not know for a few days the extent of death and injury to those unwise people that chose to stay back and "ride it out". I pray that it did not "ride them out".

This event caused me to ponder the thought of a world being "turned upside down". When a hurricane or something similar comes our way, it may take our things of "comfort" and scatter them every which way. We are left confused, frustrated, scared, and simply inconvenienced. Unlike a hurricane, when God turns things, He takes the issues and struggles in our life that are dysfunctional and in disarray and puts the proper things in the proper place. Not only that, He discards the other "junk".

Before Christ, we may have found the dysfunctional and the disarray as normal and comfortable. But that is what brought us all the confusion, frustration, and fear. When God blows in our direction, we quickly realize what is important. Simply, a relationship with Him.

Pray for those affected by Hurricane Ike.

Who am I?.....

Hello!
